Audition Requirements

Members of Equity and ACTRA please note that as FRC produces shows on a volunteer, recreational basis, we will not pay any professional association fees, such as the fees stipulated by Equity's Amateur Guest Artist policy, under any circumstances whatsoever.

Please come prepared to present the following:

— Two (2) contrasting songs selected from either musical theatre or early Jazz genre. One demonstrating character, and one demonstrating vocal range. Please come prepared to sing the best one (1) minute cut of each song as we may stop you.
We request that you do not sing a song from Cabaret.

— One (1) short dramatic monologue (1 minute max).

Auditioners should upload the backing track for their songs of choice to the website when submitting their audition information. No acapella auditions are accepted, and no accompanist will be available. Please note that you may also be asked to do a vocal range test as part of your audition.

In addition to providing vocal support, our Kit Kat Klub ensemble will require powerful and experienced dancers. Dancers can choose to audition without fulfilling the song or monologue requirements. However, they must prepare a one (1) minute dance number in the style of Fosse/Jazz. Please specify in your audition submission if you will be performing a dance number.

We are overjoyed by the outpouring of interest in auditioning for our production! If all audition timeslots are currently filled and you would like to join the waitlist, please contact our Stage Manager, Haley Gerber, at haleygerber@frontrowcentre.ca

About the Show

In a Berlin nightclub, as the 1920s draw to a close, a garish Master of Ceremonies welcomes the audience and assures them they will forget all their troubles at the Cabaret. With the Emcee’s bawdy songs as wry commentary, Cabaret explores the dark, heady, and tumultuous life of Berlin’s natives and expatriates as Germany slowly yields to the emerging Third Reich. Cliff, a young American writer newly arrived in Berlin, is immediately taken by English singer Sally Bowles. Meanwhile, Fräulein Schneider, proprietor of Cliff and Sally’s boarding house, tentatively begins a romance with Herr Schultz, a mild-mannered fruit seller who happens to be Jewish.

Rehearsals

First readthrough is on Monday January 26th, from 7-10 PM.

Rehearsals will be held on Monday/Wednesday evenings from 7-10 PM, and Saturday afternoons 1-5 PM. Please note that some Saturday rehearsals will be extended into the evening, but dates on those extended rehearsals are still to be decided.

Rehearsals will be held at FRC Studios: Unit 1, 4619 6 St NE.

PLEASE NOTE: For the week prior to opening (i.e. beginning Sunday May 10th), please expect a rehearsal or other activity on each day.

Run Dates

May 15th - 30th 2026, Victor Mitchell Theatre - Pumphouse Theatres
